Broadening Gifted Identification: A Fairness-Focused Approach with the Naglieri General Ability Tests

August 4 at 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT

Number and type of credits: CPD* — (NASP and Certificate of Completion)

Webinar description:

Educators are looking for a fairer approach to Gifted identification that challenges traditional practices, which often overlook multilingual learners and students from a wide range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

In this webinar, Dina Brulles, PhD, Kim Lansdowne, PhD, and Jack Naglieri, PhD, co-authors of the Naglieri General Ability Tests™ (Naglieri–Verbal, Naglieri–Nonverbal, and Naglieri–Quantitative), reveal ways to reduce undue influence, uncover overlooked potential, and strengthen fair practices, all through innovative tests built in a language-free construct with verbal, nonverbal, and quantitative content. Leave with a broader understanding of how identification goes beyond academic achievement and practical strategies to expand access and Gifted programming across educational settings.

Learning objectives:

1. Analyze how traditional gifted-identification practices may disadvantage multilingual learners and students from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

2. Evaluate the use of language-free assessment tools with verbal, nonverbal, and quantitative components to make gifted identification more equitable.

3. Apply strategies to reduce bias and enhance inclusive gifted programming.
