The Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test™ Second Edition (MSCEIT® 2) certification program equips you with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively debrief a test taker on their assessment results.

This program takes you through the background of the MSCEIT 2 and emotional intelligence (EI), the MSCEIT 2 model and approach, scores and how to interpret them, and more. You will increase your knowledge of the assessment through self-paced modules and knowledge checks, followed by an 8-hour instructor-led training session where you will have opportunities to practice applying what you learned and to ask questions. Overall, the MSCEIT 2 certification program takes you through the comprehensive learning experience outlined below and prepares you to have stronger relationships with test takers as you work with them to improve and leverage their EI skills. 

By successfully completing the MSCEIT 2 certification course, you will: 

  • Describe emotional intelligence (EI) and its importance.
  • Describe the MSCEIT 2 theory and model.
  • Identify how the MSCEIT 2 measures EI.
  • Interpret the MSCEIT 2 scores.
  • Explain the domain scores: Perceiving Emotions, Connecting Emotions, Understanding Emotions, and Managing Emotions.
  • Describe the two most commonly used feedback approaches: Ability-based approach and Strengths-based approach.
  • Assess which feedback approach will help individuals be most receptive to hearing about their MSCEIT 2 results.
  • Practice preparing to effectively provide feedback to a test taker using a case study.
  • Demonstrate the ability to establish rapport with test takers.
  • Explain various components of ethics when using the MSCEIT 2.
  • Identify questions and hypotheses about a test taker’s results.
  • Use a case study to describe a test taker’s strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Incorporate additional pieces of information and data into the debrief process.
  • Determine an appropriate action plan for test takers.
  • Demonstrate effective ways of ending the feedback session.
  • Demonstrate the ability to incorporate all the steps of the feedback process into a debrief.

About the Trainer

Drew is an established leadership and organization development practitioner with more than two decades of experience coaching leaders, developing programs, and creating solutions that generate results. His broad exposure to organizations in a variety of sectors has allowed him to witness first-hand the difference that effective leaders, and effective leadership practices, can have on an organization and the people within it. He is a Premier Partner and an approved Certifying Trainer for the EQ-i and EQ360 assessments by Multi-Health Systems (MHS), as well as the Risk Type Compass and the Hardiness Resilience Gauge. In addition, he holds certifications as an Achieve Global Master Trainer, is a qualified MBTI practitioner, and is certified in the Hogan HDS, HPI, and MVPI instruments. Drew holds an MSc in Organizational Psychology from the University of London, England, and an MA in Leadership from Royal Roads University in Victoria, Canada. He is a member of the Canadian Psychological Society (CPA) and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP).
