About the CSI™ 2

The Change Style Indicator® Second Edition (CSI™ 2) is an indispensable assessment tool in change management, equipping individuals with an understanding of their preferred style and approach to change—from gradual to radical. How Does the CSI™ 2 Work?

The CSI™ 2 assessment is completed online in 10 minutes or less, generating a personalized report detailing an individual’s change style preference—Conserver, Pragmatist, or Originator—along with insights into strengths, challenges, and strategies to improve collaboration and adaptability in times of change.

Three Change Styles

Four individuals engaged in a discussion, with one person speaking while others listen attentively in a modern office or meeting room.

Conservers

Individuals who prefer stability and tend to prefer gradual and incremental change. They value tradition, consistency, and predictability, and aim to improve effectiveness by efficiently using existing resources, people, technology, knowledge, and capital.

Four coworkers collaborating on a project in an industrial-style workspace with exposed brick walls and large windows, focused on a laptop screen.

Pragmatists

Individuals who are practical and flexible in their approach to change and prefer change that is functional. They focus on what works best for a given situation and are willing to adapt their methods to achieve desired outcomes.

Two individuals working together at a desk covered with papers, notebooks, sticky notes, and coffee cups; one writing while the other observes.

Originators

Individuals who are creative and innovative in their approach to change and prefer change that is fast and radical. They enjoy exploring new ideas and possibilities, often challenging the status quo, and seeking out novel solutions.

CSI™ 2 FAQ

The CSI™ 2 is administered and scored online. Test takers access the assessment through an online link provided by their administrator.

No formal certification is needed to use the CSI™ 2. Optional training is available through MHS’ Talent Assessment Portal (TAP) for added support. Certified CSI™ users can transition seamlessly and access new training modules with updated resources.

The CSI™ 2 uses a "forced choice" format, presenting two statements and asking the test taker to prioritize one statement over the other. This helps to clarify their true preferences when it comes to their change style.

The CSI™ 2 Individual Report and  CSI™ 2 Group Report are available. This provides information on an individual’s preferred approach to change, which can be used for personal reflection, team discussions, and/or leadership development. The Group Report aggregates individual change styles—Conserver, Pragmatist, Originator—from Individual Reports to show your team’s overall change composition.
